URBANA, Ill.— Danielle Schaffrath, a senior in agricultural communications at the University of Illinois, is the recipient of this year’s Illini Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow upperclassman Activator Award. The award is presented to a member of the organization who has been involved in club activities and is genuinely committed to the organization.
This year the Illini ACT developed a partnership with the Women Changing the Face of Agriculture Conference, taking care of the public relations work for the group in exchange for funding for club activities.
“Danielle really stepped up to the plate this year by leading the social media team for the Women Changing the Face of Agriculture Conference,” Katie Abrams, professor in agricultural communications, said. “She directed other ACT members to execute social media activities from a strategic plan.”
Schaffrath also assisted with the Food and Agricultural Symposium, held in February on the U of I campus. Schaffrath managed social media for the event which brought more than 300 agricultural and communications professionals to the U of I.
“If it wasn't for the Illini ACT and Dr. Abrams, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to work with the Women Changing the Face of Agriculture Conference, and I definitely wouldn't have won this award,” Schaffrath said. “I was able to engage the members of Illini ACT and the fans of the Women Changing the Face of Agriculture organization to promote the annual conference,” she said.
Schaffrath represented the Illini ACT at the National ACT Conference in Lubbock, Texas, in February.
She said the skills she gained through her experiences in ACT are invaluable and have prepared her for future careers.
