The faculty and administrative professionals listed on this page are dedicated to the agricultural communications program and its students. They share a deep understanding of the intersection of communications and agriculture. Since it is an interdisciplinary program between ACES and Media, students and faculty work closely with many ACES and Media faculty as well.
Director of Agricultural Communications
Lulu Rodriguez was named director of the Agricultural Communications Program on September 2014. She has 20 years of experience in communication education, research, and outreach initiatives in support of national and international development programs. Rodriguez has worked in the United States since 1985, when she began graduate studies in communication at Cornell University. After completing her master’s degree, she earned a Ph.D. in agricultural journalism/mass communications at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Evans’ distinguished career spanned 33 years of teaching and research in agricultural communications. He has been recognized nationally for his leadership in an agricultural communications program and recognized internationally for his exceptional academic credentials. He is also a staff associate for the Agricultural Communications Documentation Center in the ACES Library. Dr. Evans is still active and involved in the program on its committees as well as an advisor for our students and alumni. Communications and Marketing Director
Advisor Illini ACT Chapter
Jennifer Shike is the director for communications and marketing in the College of ACES at the University of Illinois. She is responsible for facilitating the development of communications and marketing strategies, managing the college’s branding strategy, and serving as the primary communications resource for the Office of Advancement. She also serves as the Illini Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow advisor and organizes professional development opportunities for students through her involvement in the Livestock Publications Council and the American Agricultural Editors Association. In addition, she serves as the Communications Track Representative on the National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association’s Board of Directors. Shike is a graduate of Kansas State University where she majored in agricultural journalism and communications and animal sciences. After graduation, she served as the National Swine Registry’s Director of Junior Activities where she developed the National Junior Swine Association from an idea into the fastest growing youth livestock organization in the United States with nearly 12,000 members.
Director of Career Service, College of ACES
Jean Drasgow is the Director of Career Services for the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Drasgow assists undergraduate and graduate students in career exploration, internship and career placement, and coordinates the ACES and Sciences Career Fair.
Previously she managed the University of Illinois Center for Human Resource Management (CHRM). Prior to CHRM, Jean worked for a regional outplacement firm as a human resources consultant, which involved a variety of career placement activities including coaching professionals in their search for appropriate employment.
Jean has her MA in Human Resources, MS in Rehabilitation Administration and a BS in Horticulture all from the University of Illinois.
